Give thanks instead of complaining

Nov 4

It always seems easier to be thankful when things are going our way then it is when challenges mount ahead of us. We can’t simultaneously feel sorry for ourselves and be thankful. We’re designed that way. The problem is we default to the self pity and complaining more easily then we do to being thankful in spite of our present challenges.

God is good, merciful, and truthful to all generations. From Adam to today God has been, and continues to be, good, merciful, and truthful. We are constantly challenged, hard pressed on every side, but not crushed. Give thanks to God for His mercy, goodness, and truth.

When you’re tempted to complain, even though it is likely for a very valid reason, consider what you can give thanks for instead. Praise is the antithesis to worry and complaint. We can’t simultaneously worry or complain and give praise. Choose praise over worry and watch your perspective thrive.

In every way we’re troubled, but we aren’t crushed by our troubles. We’re frustrated, but we don’t give up.  We’re persecuted, but we’re not abandoned. We’re captured, but we’re not killed.  We always carry around the death of Jesus in our bodies so that the life of Jesus is also shown in our bodies.  While we are alive, we are constantly handed over to death for Jesus’ sake so that the life of Jesus is also shown in our mortal nature. Death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. (2 Corinthians 4:8-12)
