Steadfast love and faithfulness

Proverbs 3 3

It sounds easy…keep steadfast love and faithfulness with you always. But is isn’t easy, is it? Steadfast love and faithfulness can dissolve when anxiety and frustration tap at the door. It’s hard to be loving and faithful when you’re stuck in traffic, pulled a thousand different directions, and feeling like the weight of the world is on your shoulders.

Proverbs 3 tells us to bind steadfast love and faithfulness around our neck so we don’t misplace them. Binding love and faithfulness around our neck means that the two blessings hang right in front of our heart, protecting it like a shield, and deflecting the attacks by the evil one. It also means that the physical presence of steadfast love and faithfulness bound around our neck controls how we hold our head and what direction it turns.

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. (Deuteronomy 11:18)
