We’ve been studying how to dress for success as the Bible instructs. Colossians 3 continues to add items to our wardrobe and in verses 13 and 14 describes the accessories of love and peace.
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. (Colossians 13:14-15)
When we are wearing God’s armor we are ready to face evil in the world, and when we add tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, love and peace to our ensemble. We are equipped for battle, but still reflecting the gentleness of Jesus. We are in harmony, perfectly balanced.
Colossians 13:15 wraps up our instructions with a critical directive, 3 little words…”And be thankful.” This is a directive, meaning that it requires action on our part. We choose to be thankful. It is impossible to be thankful and anxious at the same time. When we choose to be thankful we are open and ready to receive God’s peace in every way.
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. (2 Thessalonians 3:16)
