This week I wrote about nature. I didn’t plan a series about nature, it just sort of happened. I was so reminded about God’s love for us in the beauty of nature it inspired me to write about it. If you’re ever in doubt about God’s presence, or His love for you, simply look around- wherever you are, just stop and look. His love is written in the color of the flowers, the feel of the grass, the strength of the trees, the elegance and grace of the birds of heaven, and evidence of His adoration for us is painted all across the sky. Rainbows, stars, clouds, the moon, the sun are all reminders of God’s promises to us. Look up, be encouraged.
I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. -Genesis 9:13
God used a star to guide wise men to Jesus. He still does! Simply look up and be reminded of His grace, His faithfulness, and His plan. He created the starts and the moon with purpose- they light up the night, lead the way, and remind us that His love endures forever.
“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” -Matthew 2:1
The moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever. -Psalm 136:9
Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing. -Isaiah 40:26
The Bible tells us to “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come” -Ecclesiastes 12:1. Remember God, honor His creation, before evil comes, before you get bogged down by the business of living- and also during those very times. Take a minute, look outside, and revel in how nature displays God’s glory and how His love for you is woven throughout it. Even the clouds in the sky echo God’s love for us and His plan.
‘Clouds are a hiding place for Him, so that He cannot see; And He walks on the vault of heaven.’ -Job 22:14
before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark,
and the clouds return after the rain -Ecclesiastes 12:2
Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him. -Revelation 1:7
Adapted form Streams in the Desert: “There are clouds in our lives, shadowing, refreshing, and sometimes draping it in the blackness of night; but there is never a cloud without its bright light. “I have set my rainbows in the cloud!” If we could see the clouds from the other side where they lie in billowy glory, bathed in the light they intercept, like heaped ranges of the Alps, we should be amazed at their splendid magnificence. Clouds are always moving and passing before God’s cleansing hands.”
God sends the rain that all life needs to survive from the skies, it’s very falling a blessing from above.
This weekend challenge yourself to see connect with nature and experience personal reminders of God’s love. Take a picture of the things that speak to you, or write about it in a blessing journal- just capture the moment to use for encouragement later. Each time you see those particular pieces that touched you- a butterfly, a hummingbird, a particular type of flower- remember that God is nudging you with a reminder of His love for you.
