God’s Promises: R.E.S.T.

God promises to give us rest: Revelation, Elbow Room, Spirit, Transformation

Revelation: “This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence.” (1 John 3:19)

The vision of the angel of the Lord came to Moses while he was involved in his everyday work. That is exactly where the Lord delights in giving his revelations. He seeks a follower traveling an ordinary road, and “suddenly a light from heaven (Saul’s conversion, Acts 9:3) shines on him. And a “stairway resting on the earth” (Jacob’s ladder Genesis 28:12) can reach from the marketplace to heaven, transforming a life from one of drudgery to one of grace. Expect Him as you travel the road of life. [Adapted from Streams in the Desert

Elbow roomMy presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:14)

Take a step back from your own efforts. Rest and give God room to work. As workers for God we have to learn to make room for God- to give God “elbow room.” We calculate and estimate, and say that this or that will happen, and we forget to make room for God to come in and do as He chooses. Do not look for God to come in any particular way, but look for Him. Always be in a state of expectancy, and see that you leave God “elbow room” to come in as He likes. [Adapted from My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers]

Spirit: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses…even to the remotest part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

To walk in the Spirit is to obey the initial promptings of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not a force. He is as much a Person as Jesus is. He is the One who walks beside us, our Helper and Comforter. He is the One who gives us assurance of our relationships to the Father. He testifies to each believer, “You are one of God’s children. You have been adopted into the kingdom forever.” -Dr. Charles Stanley

Transformation: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.  (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Through the intimacy of our relationship, you are being transformed from the inside out. As you keep your focus on Me, I form you into the one I desire you to be. Your part is to yield to My creative work in you, neither resisting it nor trying to speed it up. Enjoy the tempo of a God-breathed life by letting Me set the pace. [Jesus Calling, Sarah Young]

But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster. (1 Kings 5:4)

Rest. Listen to the Voice of Truth. Out of all the voices calling out to you- choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth.

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don’t seem so high
From on top of them looking down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me
