God’s Promises: Courage

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

Rehearsing your troubles means experiencing them many times. Your are meant to go through them only once, when it actually occurs. God will equip you at that moment. Don’t multiply your suffering by rehearsing or reliving it. Relax in His Peace- it  will prepare you and transform fear into confident trust. -Adapted from Jesus Calling, Sarah Young

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28)

The story of Gideon is such a beautiful example of how God gently encourages us (Judges 6-7). Haven Today‘s Charles Morris identifies seven ways that God gave Gideon courage and in those same ways He gives courage to us. He comes to us. He gives us a new name. He takes away our cynicism. He tells us that it is ok to be weak. He teaches us to fear Him. He never loses patience. He writes our story with grace. [Seven Ways God Gives Us Courage, Haven Today]

The only way we’ll ever stand is on our knees with lifted hands. Seek justice, love mercy, walk humbly with your God. The Lord makes us courageous.
